We recommend the all-new 2010 karhu 10th mountain backcountry skis as an excellent alternative.
The 2006 / 2007 Karhu XCD 10th Mountain Backcountry Skis are waxless, full-metal edge backcountry touring skis with a generously wide platform, though not as wide as the Karhu XCD Guide, great for flotation on deep snow. However, it features slightly more camber than the Karhu XCD Guide also, allowing the Karhu 10th Mountain to aggressively perform on more varied terrain and snow conditions. Serious backcountry skiers will appreciate its light weight, quickness and maneuverability in tight surroundings and/or less than ideal snow conditions. With 99-68-84 dimensions, the generous sidecut carves remarkable turns. The Karhu XCD 10th Mountain has full metal edges and Omnitrak No Wax waxless base for excellent grip and control. Combine with 75mm 3-pin bindings and stiff all-mountain backcountry ski boots for outstanding all-mountain performance and sweet telemark turns on way down.

Wide platform, waxless skis with full-metal edges for serious backcounty skiers breaking trail and encountering various snow conditions and terrain in search of breathtaking descents. Light weight, quick and maneuverable in tight surroundings and/or less than ideal snow conditions. Wide platform for float with progressive sidecut / taper design for true telemark turns in deep snow to wind/hard pack conditions.
